Do
you use genuine sea glass and where
do you get it? Yes, all pieces are genuine sea glass that I pick
up off the ocean shores here in Puerto Rico. I use them
as is. They are not cut or polished or colored. I do use a little mineral
oil to bring out the natural beauty of each piece.
Where can I look for sea glass? If you live by the sea
look in places where there has been pollution, like an old dump, or where
there
have always been lots of
boats and people around. Look for smooth rounded pieces with no sharp edges.
Rivers and lakes are not good sources of sea glass because there is not
enough surf to rough up the glass.
What do you charge and how do you decide what to charge? My
prices range anywhere from $20 to $75. I charge more for using fine silver
wire, which I mostly use
for any of the wrapped pieces you see, and for using rare colors of sea
glass like red, blue, lime green, purple, teal or turquoise. I also charge
more
for big thick pieces as these are also rare and considered quite old in
most cases.
Where did you learn about sea glass? My main resource
for information on sea glass is a book called “Pure Sea Glass” by Richard LaMotte.
What kind of metal do you use in your designs? I use sterling
silver wire (92.5% silver) and fine silver (99% silver). All chains, ear
hooks and other findings
are sterling silver.
What happens if the metal on my jewelry tarnishes? All
sterling silver and fine silver jewelry tarnishes. I use a liquid silver
cleaner and
dip the jewelry in
it for a couple seconds, more than that and you could permanently damage
the finish on the metal. This cleaner will not hurt the sea glass. If you
buy jewelry
from me I will send it to you in a little plastic ziplock bag that has
a small “tarni-tab” in
it. I advise you to seal your jewelry in the bag with the little tab when
you are not wearing it, which will keep it shinier longer.
What happens if I break something I bought from you? I will gladly repair or
remake the piece, however, I cannot guarantee that it will look exactly the same
in color, shape or size, as each piece is one of a kind. Just mail it back to
me.
What do you charge for shipping and handling and where to you ship to? Shipping
and handling is free of charge. I will ship free anywhere in the U.S. or
Canada as long as I have a complete address. I will ship to any other country
too,
but there may be a small fee depending on how much it is.
What form of payment will you accept? Pay Pal is my preferred
method of payment.
Do you do custom orders? Yes, you can email me your request and I will see if
it is possible to make. This will be limited by the color and size of the sea
glass requested. Some colors are hard to find so I cannot always guarantee I
will have what you want in stock. The same thing applies for making duplicates.
Keep in mind that each piece really is unique.
